Blog Reflection - Week One

Week One

In week one of school we learned about genre and theory which included Neales theory which was a system of orientations, expectations and conventions which circulate between industry, text and subject. And we also learned about David Bordwells theory which was that any theme can appear in any genre.
I also learnt about representations and theory which included Stuart Hall's - Encoding and Decoding with his three different readings. Also learning about Andrew Goodwins 'Voyeurism' theory and Laura Mulvey's Male gaze.
Lastly in week one we had to go onto a website called unsigned.com and search for an artist that we wanted to use. In the end after searching I decided to use an artist called THICKE and the name of their song is 'Let u go'

What are your initial ideas for advanced portfolio?

My initial ideas are that I want to create a music video which fits the genre of R&B by using an R&B song, I would want my video to have a very calm effect to it and also for everything to be in black and white with very good lighting to help set the mood of an R&B song.

Who would you like to work with?

I would like to work with Abir Mohammad because although he wasn't in my class last year we are good friends and we get along very well and are very open with our ideas and we know how to work with each other due to other lessons we have had together. Creatively Abir and myself are very different but when we work together we always take the good points for each others ideas to create something that we are both very pleased with.

What are your hopes and fears about the project?

My hopes for this music video are that I hope to create a enjoyable music video with my partner which fits the genre we want to do and to our target audience is something they would enjoy and want to watch again. My fears for this music video are that because I want to do the music video in black and white I don't want it to come across as boring to my target audience because if there is no colour it could give the wrong effect.
